EQUIPMENT

  • 1 large saucepan
  • 1 shallow dish
  • 1 Food Processor

INGREDIENTS

  • 3 pounds Pink Lady Apples (or Honeycrisp or Granny Smith)
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1 tsp Ground Cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp Ground Cardamom
  • Ginger (1-inch knob of raw and finely chopped)
  • 2 tsp Agave
  • 2 tsp Apple Cider Vinegar
  • ¼ tsp Salt
  • 4 grates Nutmeg

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Core and Slice Apples: Core the apples and discard the cores. Slice the apples into roughly 1-inch wide pieces.
    3 pounds Pink Lady Apples
  • Simmer the Apples: Place the sliced apples in a large saucepan with water, cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, agave, apple cider vinegar, and salt. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then cover and continue to simmer on low heat until the apples are soft (about 40 minutes).
1 cup Water, 1 tsp Ground Cinnamon, ¼ tsp Ground Cardamom, Ginger, 2 tsp Agave, 2 tsp Apple Cider Vinegar, ¼ tsp Salt
  • Cool and Add Nutmeg: Allow the apples to cool for about 10 minutes. Add the grated nutmeg to the mixture.
    4 grates Nutmeg
  • Blend to Desired Consistency: Transfer the mixture to a food processor and pulse until you reach your desired consistency. For a more rustic, chunky texture, pulse gently.
  • Serve or Store: Let the applesauce cool to room temperature before serving. Alternatively, store the applesauce in the refrigerator, covered, for up to 3 days.

NOTES

  • Apple Varieties: Pink Lady apples provide a balanced sweetness and tartness, but if you want a more tart sauce, Granny Smith is a great option.
  • Spice Customization: Feel free to adjust the amount of cinnamon, cardamom, and nutmeg based on personal taste.
  • Texture Preference: For a smoother applesauce, blend the mixture longer, or for a chunkier texture, pulse only a few times.
  • Serving Suggestion: This apple sauce pairs wonderfully with roasted meats, like pork or poultry, or as a topping for oatmeal, pancakes, or yogurt.
